ABOUT ISSHIN-RYU Karate-Do

Isshin-Ryu - "One-Heart Way"

"The Time to strike is when the OPPORTUNITY presents itself"
- Master tatsuo Shimabuku

Isshin-Ryū karate was founded by Grand Master Tatsuo Shimabuku on the island of Okinawa in 1956, drawing on the styles of Shorin-ryū karate, Gojū-ryū karate, and kobu-dō. The name literally means "one heart way", as in "wholehearted" or "complete".

ISSHIN-RYU KARATE TECHNIQUES:
1: All techniques are executed from a natural stance.
2: Isshin-Ryu uses the vertical fist as opposed to the horizontal fist used by other styles.*
3: In fighting techniques for practicability.
4: Sharp low kicks for common sense street survival.

*Though the vertical fist is not exclusive to Isshin-Ryu Karate, it is unique to Isshin-Ryu in comparison to other styles.
